I must have painted over a hundred Hammer Horrors’ and one thing I’ve noted is that all their early films starred actresses that, although pretty, weren’t extraordinarily beautiful or unattainable. This undoubtedly made them sexier and more believable in their parts and they could certainly act better than the girls that blighted Hammer’s movies later on. Mind you, the scripts got worse too so one can’t blame everything on talentless totty from the Benny Hill Show and Hugh Hefner’s sloppy seconds! Valerie Gaunt, of course, was both sexy and talented. It’s amazing therefore that she only made two movies. Mind you, she probably wasn’t too pleased that she got knocked off in both of ’em! Actually, in Curse Of Frankenstein she got knocked up as well!
