The best thing about creating these classic horror paintings is that I get to revisit all the styles and influences that were about when I was just a young weenie back in the 60’s. For ‘The Crawling Eye’ I replicated the Frazetta ‘Creepy’ covers and for ‘Suspiria’ I emulated the Famous Monsters Of Filmland covers by Basil Gogos. There’s quite a few Aurora Monster Box influences (James Bama) in there too and the atmospheric matte paintings that Les Bowie did for Hammer Films really impact on my backgrounds. For Repulsion I fancied popping back to the early days of Rod Serling’s Night Gallery, which was a superb show until some dopey executive decided to introduce ‘funny’ skits and spoil it.
