“All exploitive art should look like it’s been knocked up at 5am by some wasted bum who once had talent but is now seriously on the slide.”

The best thing about painting the Universal Monsters is that I’m always whisked back to 1960’s Montana where as a kid I’d spend many a snowed in day absorbing Basil Gogos’ brilliant Famous Monsters Of Filmland covers. At this time of year though, I’m reminded more of James Bama’s equally superb Aurora Monster box covers because I was given the models as Christmas presents. Bama’s artwork always eclipsed the models of course, and I especially remember studying the little house he painted behind the Wolf Man thinking how great it was to be tucked up safely indoors while all hell prowled about outside!
